Born in Indiana, Henry MacGinnis studied under Hoosier artists T.C. Steele, William Forsyth, and J.O. Adams. In 1900, he studied in Europe, prominently painting in Paris and Munich for five years. Known for his Indiana landscapes, he exhibited alongside notable American Impressionists, such as Mary Cassatt, William Merritt Chase, Childe Hassam, and Ernest Lawson. After moving to New Jersey in 1924, he focused on portraiture and landscapes of New England. During his lifetime, MacGinnis was a member of several art organizations including Audubon Artists, Hoosier Salon, Salmagundi Club, and Allied Artists. His work has been widely sold in auctions throughout the United States.
