A group of books concerning the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) features volumes two (published 1903), three (published 1901), and four (published 1901) of the five-volume set ’Ibsen’s Prose Dramas’ edited by William Archer, and the additional volume in the series entitled ‘Peer Gynt: A Dramatic Poem,’ published 1902. The publisher in this series was The Walter Scott Publishing Co., Ltd., London in conjunction with Charles Scribner’s Sons, New York. Also included is the first edition of the two-volume set ‘The Life of Ibsen’ by Halvdan Koht, published 1931 by The American-Scandinavian Foundation, W. W. Norton & Company, Inc., New York. Other volumes included in this lot are Arthur Miller’s adaptation of ‘An Enemy of the People;’ the 1910 edition of George Bernard Shaw’s ‘The Quintessence of Ibsenism;’ a 1950 Everyman’s Library edition of ‘Peer Gynt;’ and a 1934 ‘Ibsen Studies’ volume by P. J. Eikeland, published by The St. Olaf College Press.
