Item Details
A selection of 16 small books containing essays on a variety of subjects, including criticism, philosophy, and mathematics. There are seven volumes in The World’s Classics series, published by the Oxford University Press in the 1920s and 1930s. These include three volumes of collected essays by Montaigne. There are four volumes from the Everyman’s Library, which also appear to have been published in the 1920s and 1930s, by J. M. Dent & Sons, Lt. Also included is the two-volume set ‘The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table’ by Oliver Wendell Holmes, illustrated by Howard Pyle. These are cloth bound and are the 1894 edition of the work. Published by The Riverside Press, a division of Houghton, Mifflin & Co. Finally, a translation of Anatole France’s ‘The Garden of Epicurius,’ Dodd, Mead & Company 1926 (covers in very poor shape) as well as E.M. Joad’s ‘Great Philosophies of the World’ and also a Modern Library tome ‘A Modern Book of Criticism’ edited by Ludwig Lewisohn, published 1919 by Boni and Liveright.
