Modern Editions of Mackay with Two Other Books

An interesting assortment of books includes two different modern editions of Charles Mackay’s ‘Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds.’ The hardcover edition was published in 1985 by Templeton Publications, with a forward by John M. Templeton, and containing reproductions of original illustrations from both the 1841 and 1852 first and second editions of the book, with 702 pages plus index. The softcover edition was published in 1980 by Three Rivers Press, and has 740 pages including index. This edition has an introduction by Andrew Tobias and also contains reproductions of illustrations from the first and second editions. The other two volumes in this lot include ‘Atlantis’ by Ignatius Donnelly, Harper & Brothers, 1882, and ‘Strange Customs, Manners and Beliefs’ by A. Hyatt Verrill, First Impression 1946, L. C. Page & Company, Boston, 302 pages including index, illustrated.

Condition

Some wear consistent with age and use. The “Atlantis” book has a few pages near the front that have completely separated from the binding, and has the original owner’s name written in ink on the front flyleaf.
