Chinese Canton Reticulated Porcelain Chestnut Basket on Stand, Qing Dynasty
Item Details
A Chinese blue and white Canton fruit basket on stand. This mid 19th century reticulated basket has painted landscape scene with temples and boats on the interior and a clouds and rain border. This decoration was referred to as Canton in the United States. It was made at kilns in other areas in China and shipped from ports in Canton (Guangzhou) to be used as ballast under tea chests.
