Influenced by Japanese art, Julie Zahn is a Philadelphia-based artist who studied at Earlham College and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She works in a variety of media including watercolor, but is especially known for her woodblocks and katazome (Japanese stencil dying). After studying at the Pennsylvania Academy, she traveled to Kyoto on a scholarship where she studied katazome and apprenticed with an antique screen restorer. Her work has been collected and exhibited by multiple institutions including the Smithsonian Institution, the Woodmere Art Museum, and Nichols Berg Gallery, among others.
