| Additional Information | The front flyleaf features a hand-written note by Sam W. Pennypacker, the 23rd Governor of Pennsylvania, stating the volume came from the library of Major General John F. Reynolds who was killed at Gettysburg. John F. Reynolds was the military governor of Fredericksburg, a Major General in the Civil War, and was killed while commanding his troops, the Army of the Potomac, at the Battle of Gettysburg. A statue of Reynolds hs been erected in his honor in the Gettysburg National Military Park. Governor Pennypacker was responsible for the creation of the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania State Museum and construction of the state capitol building |
