Hungarian artist Lajos Bruck was known for his portraits, and realist paintings of genre scenes, rural life, and interior scenes. His work has been exhibited and collected by several institutions including the Műcsarnok (Art Gallery), and the Hungarian National Gallery, among others.

- significant discoloration to painting varnish, with craquelure throughout varnish and paint layers; canvas has been re-lined, with edges visible within frame sight edge; paint loss along edges of canvas has been over-painted, with other instances of overpainting throughout composition; surface marks with paint loss and two punctures to canvas in lower right; ink transfer to surface of piece along center right edge in Cyrillic text; accretion throughout; cracks, chips, scratches, and edge wear throughout frame; remnants of torn backing paper to verso.
