Born in New York City, Holland was drawn to both art and sports from a young age. However, he was unable to participate in sports due to a childhood handicap that required him to wear a leg brace. Holland pursued an art education, attending New York City’s School of Industrial Art, Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Arts. His love for sports persisted through much of his education as he took inspiration from sports photography in magazines and newspapers. Best known for his mixed media works of athletes and pop culture icons, Holland earned the title of ‘Sports Artist of the Year’ in 1993 from the American Sport Art Museum and Archives. His work has been used to promote United States National Olympic teams, the Los Angeles Kings, and Major League Baseball. Today, Holland regularly appears in the news as his paintings are often commissioned by sports teams as presents for beloved athletes such as David Ortiz, Mariano Rivera, and Derek Jeter.
