A selection of 19th century American photographs and letters of prominent figures, including Henry Ward Beecher.
John Sherman (1823-1900) was a politician from the state of Ohio during the American Civil War and into the late nineteenth century. A member of the Republican Party, he served in both houses of the U.S. Congress. He also served as the United States Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of State. His signature was not authenticated.
Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) was an American Congregationalist clergyman, social reformer, and speaker, known for his support of the abolition of slavery, his emphasis on God’s love, and his 1875 adultery trial. His signature was given a ‘visual pass’ by a third party authenticator.
Cable B. Smith (1808-1864), born in Boston, was a lawyer, congressman, cabinet officer, and Abraham Lincoln supporter. Lincoln named Cable Smith his Secretary of the Interior before he resigned due to his failing health. His signature was not authenticated.

Smith; the signatures were done in ink pen and were not professionally authenticated; the military group cabinet photograph is not identified; edge and surface wear consistent with age and handling; folds lines, tears with touched/rounded corners; the letter was hand-written by Cable B. Smith
