Carrie Steinle Rookwood Pottery Vase , 1906

Item Details

Carolyn Francis Steinle (“Carrie”) started her career at Rookwood at the age of 15 in 1886, and was likely heavily influenced in her work by Maria Longworth Nichols (nee Storer), in whose home she spent a portion of her childhood and where her mother was French teacher and governess. She left the pottery in 1925 at the age of 54 to join a convent. She is known for her work in Standard, Iris and Vellum glazes.
