Rookwood Pottery Albert R. Valentien Plate, Late 19th Century

Albert R. Valentien (1862-1925) was a Cincinnati artist, studying at the Cincinnati Art Academy with both Frank Duveneck and John Rettig. He was considered to be one of the leading art pottery decorators of the day and received the prestigious gold medal award at the Universal Exposition in Paris, 1900. Albert Valentien was the first regularly employed artist hired by Rookwood pottery in 1881.
