Born in New York, Michael Farsetta attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. His work draws influences from his Japanese heritage, particularly Zen Buddhism, and the relationship between color, quantum physics, and sacred geometry. With an interest in color, Farsetta is also particularly influenced by the work of modernist Josef Albers, and Abstract Expressionists Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. His work often consists of large-scale paintings exhibiting vibrant colors, irregular shapes, and bold gestural brushstrokes, capriciously applied throughout the canvas.
