Item Details

Wesley Kimler (American, born 1953)
Untitled, 2009
Oil on canvas
Signed and titled to the verso

A Chicago-based artist working in oils on monumentally-sized canvases, Wesley Kimler creates abstracted figural images with vast, bold brushstrokes. Kimler studied at the Laguna Gloria School of Art in Austin and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited around the country and held in museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Northwestern’s Block Museum of Art in Evanston, IL, and the Berkeley Art Museum in California. Kimler has also dubbed himself “The Shark” for his fierce attacks on the established art world and its academic approach to the subject about which he is himself so passionate.
