A phenomenal whale bone carving titled ‘Double Vertebrae Dancer’ by Inupiaq John Boy Weyiouanna. This wonderful signed piece is carved on both sides of an aged vertebrae by artist from Shishmaref, AK. John is part of the Inupiaq tribe, born June 5th, 1973. He carves whalebone almost exclusively, specializing in dancers and hunters that he carves from both vertebrae and rib bones. His figures are notable for their expressive faces and lively, animated eyes. Per owner, this piece was purchased in Anchorage, AK, in 1991. Today only native eskimo can legally carve whale bone. This valuable piece will be on display at the EBTH preview.
