Best known for his woodcuts, Orlowski served in the German military during WWI between his studies at the Training Academy of the Museum of Decorative Arts and the National Art School, receiving his degree in 1919. During WWII, he worked at the Berlin National Gallery and later taught courses at the Berlin University of the Arts. Orlowski received the Großer Berliner Kunstpreis (City of Berlin Art Prize) in 1954. His works are held in the collections of The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., The British Museum in London and the Detroit Institute of Art Museum.
