Susie the Gorilla Vintage Postcards

Seven vintage postcards featuring the Cincinnati Zoo’s famous gorilla ‘Susie’. Susie was captured in the Belgian Congo and transported to America (after being in France) aboard the Graf Zepplin in 1929. She was the first gorilla to grow to maturity in captivity. She was purchased by RJ Sullivan and placed in the Cincinnati Zoo where she was a beloved attraction for many years. The postcards date to the 1940’s and a favorite shows Susie wearing a Cincinnati Reds baseball hat.
