Known for his paintings of seasonal landscapes, townscapes, and harbor scenes, Leo B. Blake studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was taught by a number of notable artists such as Alphonse Mucha, J.H. Vanderpoel, Allen Philbrick, Antonin Sterba, and F. DeForrest Schook, to name a few. Blake worked as a illustrator and commercial artist early in his career, then moved to the Berkshires in Massachusetts, where he began focusing on painting scenes of New England. Throughout his career, he also taught at a few different institutions such as Williams College and the Berkshire Museum. His work has been exhibited and collected by multiple institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Illinois State Museum, the Berkshire Museum, and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
