A whimsical thrown and altered porcelain teapot by Kentucky artist Larry Watson. This style of Watson’s teapot was inspired by a trip to France and Europe for an Art Exchange program in the early 2000s, and this piece features a slightly tilted form with ball finial on the lid, offset spout and Watson’s signature twisted porcelain handle. It rests on a thrown and then altered raised foot, embellished with bead decoration and a matte, green drip glaze. It has an illegible signature to the underside of the foot.
A 2008 recipient of the Artist Emeritus award by the Kentucky Arts Council, Larry Watson is an accomplished Kentucky artist who has been creating fine porcelain pottery for more than twenty-five years. His work has been featured in notable publications, including Ceramics Monthly, Crafts Report, and Arts Across Kentucky. Watson has served as adjunct professor at Northern Kentucky University, and as president for the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, and on the board of the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea. Though most of his career has been spent in Kentucky, his work has been influenced by his participation in art exchange programs in both the Ukraine and France.
