A 1973 limited edition serigraph on paper by well-listed American artist and conservationist Charley Harper (Cincinnati, Ohio; 1922 – 2007), titled Last Sunflower Seed. This print depicts a flurry of active cardinals fighting over a single sunflower seed, which one bird holds triumphantly in its beak to the edge of the frame. This work is signed, titled and numbered by the artist in pencil to the lower margin, set behind glass and mounted in a contemporary frame, equipped to hang.
Harper was a beloved Cincinnati-based artist and conservationist, renowned for his minimal realism style. He was quoted as saying “I don’t try to put everything in, I try to leave everything out.” His work is delightfully laced with humor and sometimes includes short prose.
