A 19th century oil copy painting on canvas by an anonymous artist after the painting Prince Baltasar Carlos in Silver by historically renowned Spanish painter Diego Velázquez (1599 – 1660). The image depicts the young prince posing with a rifle in an idealized wilderness setting under a tree amidst a mountainous valley, his faithful canine companion asleep by his side. There is no artist signature; however, the verso is inscribed with additional information stating the copyist is a Spanish painter named Francisco Martin. This work is mounted in a beveled wood frame with natural and gold tone finishes, equipped to the verso for hanging.
Condition
-craquelure across painting surface; yellowing to varnish; scattered accretions; areas of lift and tiny spots of paint loss; buckling to canvas to lower left corner and right side; nicks and abrasions to frame.
