Eduard Borein was born in San Leandro, California and is best known for his Western genre illustrations. He began his formal artistic training at the San Francisco Art School in 1841, studying under the likes of artists Jimmy Swinnerton and Maynard Dixon. Borein further pursued his artistic career working as an illustrator for the magazine The Land and Sunshine in California and later on, he successfully became an acclaimed illustrator for his work in the San Francisco Call. Subsequently, he went on to study at the Art Students League under the tutelage of renowned artist Child Hassam, and in doing so established his distinctive Western illustrations and etchings for which he is recognized today. His oeuvre is part of various permanent collections including the Whitney Western Art Museum, Wyoming; Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Texas; San Diego Museum of Art, California; the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma and more.
Condition
- heavy toning throughout sheets; smudges and spots of small discolorations; yellowing to mat; scratches and wear throughout frame finish. Pieces were examined outside of frame.
