A circa 1890s barking French Bulldog automation child’s toy manufactured by ‘Roullet & Decamps.’ This antique cream and black toy dog is mounted on wheels, presenting molded ribs with a nodding head. Constructed of a paper-mache material with a smooth brush surface, this 19th-Century toy dog portrays brown colored glass eyes, a hinged mouth with teeth, and pricked ears. He is wearing a bristle scarlet collar with a metal pull-chain for activating the bark or growling mechanism.
