Paul Revere Pottery Stoneware Cut-Out Heart Handled Plate, Early 20th Century
Item Details
A semi-gloss blue glazed earthenware serving platter from Paul Revere Pottery, early 20th century. It has a wide rim with heart form cut-out handles to either side, and is marked to the underside.
The Paul Revere Pottery was started in Boston in 1899 as a subset of the Saturday Evening Girls Pottery as a way for young immigrant girls to have social and cultural opportunities otherwise unavailable to them. With their financial patron, Helen Osborne Storrow, the pottery was managed by the Saturday Evening Girls and produced what they referred to as ‘Peasant ware,’ which soon began to take on more detailed and elaborate design features.
