In the early 2000s, the stretch of 1528 -1536 Madison Road in the historic neighborhood district Walnut Hills in Cincinnati, Ohio, underwent significant renovations. Building owner Dora Lewis took the opportunity to use the temporarily boarded window space as an artistic venue for the enjoyment of the people of the community, commissioning Cincinnati artist Gregory Storer to create a running mural on plywood panels covering more than 100 feet. ‘Lewis doesn’t allow things to be destroyed,’ Storer is quoted saying. During the razing process for the building, every brick was numbered and stored and every historically significant item was lovingly protected. Storer chose plywood as the ground for the murals and opted to not go to great lengths to protect the painted surfaces, as he envisioned the murals to take on an ephemeral quality, changing and reacting to the elements, evolving with age as all living things do. The murals are an homage to United States veterans, created as a sign of gratitude for their sacrifice. Many of the carpenters who installed these murals were veterans as well. EBTH is proud to offer these storefront murals for auction honoring our veterans.
