Mynele was born in Johannesburg, South Africa during 1948; the same year apartheid was officially enforced. He studied at a boarding school in Pretoria where he discovered his talent for drawing and design. In 1972, he received his formal art training at the Evangelical Lutheran Church Arts and Craft Center in Rorke’s Drift. Mynele became an integral part of a grassroots anti-apartheid movement, employing his artwork to protest oppression and to mobilize others in the fight against apartheid. He moved to Botswana where he became a member of the Medu Art Ensemble and was eventually killed by South African Defense Force in 1985.
