Surrealist artist Lani Irwin was born in Annapolis, Maryland in 1947, but spent much of her teen years living and traveling throughout Europe. She earned both earned B.A. and M.F.A. degrees from American University in Washington, D.C., and has lived and worked in Assisi, Italy since 1987. Her paintings have been widely exhibited since the mid-1970s, and her work resides in numerous prestigious institutions including: Museo Internazionale della Donna nell’Arte, Scontrone, Italy; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Smithsonian American Art Museum,, Washington , D.C.; and The Peace Museum, Chicago, Illinois.
