This skillfully crafted portrait created from glazing several layers of oil paint depicts a gentleman wearing a cravat and dark jacket. It is unsigned and monogrammed to the lower right. The painting is displayed in an early 19th century gilt wood frame with hanging wire to the verso.

Condition

- two repairs to canvas, visible to verso; small areas of inpainting to right of nose; to edge of right cheek, to cravat and jacket; craquelure across painting surface; several small chips to gesso finish of frame; wear and accretion to frame finish.
