Painter and illustrator Lester J. Ambrose studied at the Art Students League and the Chase School with William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri. A member of the Society of Independent Artists, he was known for his figural interior scenes, and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Design, among other institutions.

Condition

- discoloration and accretion to painting, with accretion concentrated to lower right quadrant of piece; slight frame rub along sight edges; surface marks and wear to painting with slight flakes of paint loss noted to lower left, upper center, and lower right; scuffs, marks, and wear to frame; tape to cuts in verso backing paper.
