Guy Harloff was a self-taught artist born in Paris. He spent much of his childhood travelling Europe, before landing again in Paris to study at l’École Chauveau à Paris. He began his career as an experimental cinematographer and filmmaker in Italy, and expanded his artistic endeavors to a wide berth of drawing, painting, collage, and printmaking. Harloff spent his life as a nomad, with periods in Italy, France, London, the Middle East, New York, and time in the 1970’s based on his boat, Le Devenir. His work features interpretations of religious and cultural symbols, as well as a recurring drawing of his own right eye. Harloff’s work has been shown at New York’s Waddell Gallery, in Milan’s Museo della Permanente, as part of documenta 5 in Kassel, and more.
