Op Art pioneer Henry Pearson was born in Kinston, North Carolina and studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Yale University. He continued his art training at the Art Students League in New Yor with Wil Barnet and Reginald Marsh. He is known for his designs of swirling lines and inked whorls that were influenced by his work on topographical maps while serving in the army. His work has been collected by multiple institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the North Carolina Museum of Art, among others.
