Grace Arnold Albee was born in Rhode Island in 1890 and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design until 1912 where she married fellow artist Percy F. Albee (1883 – 1959). During the mid-1920s, she began to experiment with linocut printmaking and underwent formal woodblock training when she moved to Paris in 1928. Albee is known for her exquisitely detailed woodblocks and actively shaping the wood engraving revival of the early 1900s. Her work is still displayed in national collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Permanent Collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and the Smithsonian Institution.
