Nick Bubash is a fine artist and tattoo artist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He studied Fine Art at Penn State University before moving to New York City, where he worked for the celebrated contemporary artist Peter Max. Soon thereafter, he pursued tattooing and apprenticed under the revolutionary tattoo artist Thom DeVita for five years. Encouraged by DeVita to continue his formal art studies, Bubash attended The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. During his time there, he was awarded the Scheidt Traveling Grant, which allowed him to study abroad in India. The culture and religious art of India, particularly sculptures from the 9th to the 12th centuries that combine human and animal forms, had a significant impact on Bubash’s work and continue to be an important influence on him today.

As a collector of religious artifacts from around the world, Bubash’s fine art often carries spiritual themes, however his art is not confined to a particular style. He works in a variety of media, creating drawings, paintings, sculptures, collages, found-object assemblages, etchings and other types of prints. However, Bubash has also continued working as a tattoo artist and opened his first tattoo shop in 1975; more recently in 2008, he opened his current studio and tattoo shop Route 60 Tattoo, located in McKees Rocks. In 2013, a solo exhibition of his work titled Nick Bubash: The Patron Saint of White Guys That Went Tribal and Other Works was held at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, featuring 30 mixed-media sculptures. In addition, his work has been exhibited and collected by multiple institutions including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Laguna Beach Art Museum, and the Clayton Gallery (New York City), among many others.
