Frasconi was known for his woodblock prints and book illustrations. The artist began his formal technical training as a printmaker at the age of 12 in Uruguay. During his childhood, the artist was exposed to numerous inspirations including jazz music and the woodcuts of Paul Gauguin (French, 1848 – 1903). After WWII, the artist emigrated to the United States and took a post as a gardener and guard at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. It was at the SBMA that the artist had his first exhibition, followed soon after by an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. In 1952, the artist was awarded with a Guggenheim fellowship. The artist’s works can be found in numerous private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York).
