An oil painting on board by well-listed American painter George Herbert McCord (1848 – 1909). Depicted in the painting is a steep, rocky formation flanking a calm ocean and sandy shore. The painting is signed to the lower left and is presented in a plein air wooden frame with a gilt finish, equipped to hang.

Although McCord painted a wide variety of subjects, he is known for his marine and landscape painting and is prolific in oil, pastel, and watercolor. He studied at the Hudson River Institute and the Claverack Academy, and is considered a second generation Hudson School painter. His works are represented in numerous prestigious collections, including Lowe Art Museum; The Brooklyn Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; New-York Historical Society; The Hudson River Museum; National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, among many others.

- accretions and minor abrasions to surface of painting; vertical line of minor discoloration along left side; light wear to frame at corners.
