A handwritten card to the verso reads ‘Exposition Universelle de 1855, Mention Honorable; Papier, Toiles, P.L. Brevete pour le Pastel, PARIS, Marque Deposee.’ This appears to refer to the text from a stamp to the verso of the piece, which alludes to an award given to the manufacturer of the paper at the 1855 exposition. This work has not been viewed out of the frame.

- scattered foxing to drawing, most notable at edges; light wear to frame.
