An oil painting on canvas titled ‘Sea Breeze’ by well-listed American nostalgic genre painter, William Steve Seltzer (California/Montana; born 1955). This painting depicts people dressed in sun dresses, swimsuits and sun hats at the ocean shore while two children in the foreground are playing with a toy sail boat. This work is signed to the lower left. This painting is presented in a gilt wood frame with an ivory linen liner and is equipped to hang.
Steve Seltzer was raised in Montana, the grandson of well-listed western artist Olaf Carl Seltzer(Montana/Denmark; 1877 – 1957). Even with his grandfathers influence, it was only after a career in architecture and real estate that Steve decided to become a full time artist and moved to Southern California. There he studied with Russian impressionist artist Sergei Bongart, Don Putman (California; 1926 – 2007) and established a studio with his brother-in-law Dan McCaw (California/Montana; born 1942). Through the influence of these artists, Seltzer’s work became more impressionistic and his subject matter expanded from western themes and has earned him numerous prestigious awards.
