This work features two seated women dressed in classical flowing drapery. A woman wearing an Egyptian headdress is immersed in a book on her lap, as the other woman leans against her shoulder. The work is signed in mold near the edge of the base.

French sculptor Duchoiselle primarily worked in bronze and was known for his allegorical work and depictions of Native American subject matters.
