Painter and illustrator Lester J. Ambrose studied at the Art Students League and the Chase School with William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri. A member of the Society of Independent Artists, he was known for his figural interior scenes, and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Design, among other institutions.
- discoloration to painting; craquelure throughout; warping to canvas from lost tension to lower right and upper left corners; piece sits crooked in frame, with upper edge of canvas visible; overpainting present throughout much of floor area to lower left, with other notable restoration in faces of figures and turkey platter; signature appears clean under UV light; significant wear to finish on frame, with additional chips and scratches along edges; accretion to surfaces.
