Painter and illustrator Lester J. Ambrose studied at the Art Students League and the Chase School with William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri. A member of the Society of Independent Artists, he was known for his figural interior scenes, and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Design, among other institutions.

- discoloration to painting; minor craquelure throughout paint; frame rub to canvas edges; scattered, pin head sized areas of overpainting present throughout; signature appears clean under UV light; chips, cracks, and scratches to frame veneer on all sides; accretion to surfaces; canvas is slightly smaller than frame window, with upper and lower edges of canvas visible.
