Painter and illustrator Lester J. Ambrose studied at the Art Students League and the Chase School with William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri. A member of the Society of Independent Artists, he was known for his figural interior scenes, and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Design, among other institutions.

Condition

- loss of tension to canvas; stretcher marks visible to edges; frame rub to canvas edges with light paint loss and holes beginning to form at corners; holes along edges from previous stretching support; some discoloration and darkening to varnish; craquelure to paint; overpainting present throughout, notably on faces of figures and around canvas edges; discoloration to verso.
