[1687] "Don Quixote" Translation Attributed to John Philips

A 17th century English language copy of Don Quixote attributed as the first and only translation by John Philips (English, 1631-1706), nephew of poet John Milton’s. A typed letter dated 1919 is tipped in with the attribution. Title page and preliminary leaves are missing, though the gatherings do correspond to extant copies (ESTC 006104872).

- rebound in 20th century cloth with paper spine label, lightly bumped corners; missing title page and some preliminary leaves, no frontispiece or other illustrations present; several pages with damage and repairs, some tears and stains; page 58 and 63 have numbers switched; most pages seem to have reinforcement in the gutter; some pages missing (please refer to collational formula); binding is tight, pages may have been trimmed.
