Eight Gillows of Lancaster, George IV Mahogany Dining Chairs, Circa 1820-1830
Item Details
The set includes seven side chairs and one open armchair. Each chair is stamped ‘Gillows Lancaster’ on the underside of the front seat rail. Additionally, one of the side chairs is inscribed ‘724P’ in the same location and it is struck with possible craftsman initials appearing to read ‘GH’.

Condition
- overall with various scratches, marks, nicks/small chips, small cracks, and abrasions consistent with age and use; structurally stable but a few with slightly loose joints as would be expected; red leather upholstery is later and with variable wear; a few chairs with slightly larger chips to back feet; one chair with a small patch repair to back of crest; another chair with repaired breaks to both stiles near lower back; scattered repairs to applied, seat rail moldings; back of armchair with some sunfading.
