A mid 19th century oil painting on canvas in the style of the Hudson River School. This river valley landscape is painted in a pastel morning light with softly-rendered forms. It is unsigned and presented in a contemporary frame, also in the Hudson River style, with a high border and reeded cove with molded corner brackets in the form of leaves and berries. The sight edge is bordered with egg and dart ornamentation, and there is a hanging wire to the verso.

Condition

- discoloration to painting varnish; craquelure and accretion to surface; frame rub to painting with overpainting along lower edge; painting has been relined; cracks to frame molding in corners; other scratches and chips to frame; discoloration and accretion to verso.
