An oil painting on board by listed Cincinnati Artist Reginald Leslie Grooms. This work depicts a line of docked sailboats in an Expressionist style of thick brush strokes and exaggerated color. It is presented in a gilt wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Grooms was a painter, watercolorist, lithographer and teacher. His students include many prominent and listed Cincinnati artists. The son of a wood engraver, Grooms took up watercolors and oils as a childhood hobby. He received a minuscule amount of formal art training in his school days. Later, he would later study at the Cincinnati Art Academy for 5 years and the Academie Julian in Paris for 2 years. Grooms has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout his life. His works have been exhibited at the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Cincinnati Art Club, the University of Cincinnati, and more.
Condition
- moderate discoloration to painting varnish; some scratches and chips to surface flattening of paint peaks to right center; scuffs, chips, and wear to frame finish; tears to paper backing.
