1851 "Chamber-Book of the K.K. Hunter Battalion" Austrian Military History Book

Item Details

An 1851 hardcover German language booklet titled Kammerbüchse für die K.K. Jäger or Chamber-Book for the K.K. Hunter (Battalion), published 1851 in Vienna. The K.K. Jäger-Battalion was a formation of the army of the Austrian Empire, originally a hunting group who became a unit of light skirmishers in 1808 and later a regular infantry unit. ‘K.K.’ or ‘K und K’ is short for ‘kaiserlich und königlich’, ‘Imperial and Royal’, referring to the dual monarchy of the Empire of Austria and the Kingdom of Hungary under a shared Hapsburg monarch. The volume features a fold-out illustration of the unit’s rifle to the back of the volume, and is from the K.K.Kriegs-Archiv, the Imperial and Royal War Archive in Vienna.
