Romilda Birkemeyer Dilley is best known for her oil paintings and fashion illustrations. She began her formal artistic training in her hometown at the Cincinnati Art Academy. Upon graduating, Dilley further pursued her artistic career and moved to Chicago, continuing her education at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. Throughout her life, Dilley worked as a fashion illustrator for department stores and multiple publications for which she became recognized. She was an active member of multiple associations including The Women’s Art Club, American Penwomen, The Hilltop Artists and The McDowell Society. Her fashions illustrations are held by various public and private institutions including the Cincinnati Art Museum. This sketch was likely created from a class instructed by prominent Cincinnati artists John Weis (1892-1962) and Herman Henry Wessel (1878-1969).

Deaccessioned from the Art Academy of Cincinnati’s Collection. Proceeds to benefit future student programs. Founded in 1869, The Art Academy of Cincinnati is celebrating their 150th anniversary this year through the sale of limited works in the Collection.

- varying corner wear, stains, minor creases, minor torn areas, toning and small pinhole perforations to corners from previous display throughout margins; negligible stains, minor toning and negligible charcoal rubbing throughout the paper.
