Lyman Kipp is most well known for his monumental sculptures and public works composed of welded geometric shapes, painted in bright primary colors. He studied at the Pratt Institute and the Cranbrook Art Academy and went on to teach at Bennington College, Hunter College, and Lehman College. Involved in the development of the Primary Structure style, Kipp was a founding member of ConStruct, a gallery that organizes monumental sculptural exhibitions throughout the United States. His work can be found in many private and public collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, among others.
