Peter Keil Oil Painting "Blue Picasso", 1969

Item Details

Peter Robert Keil (German; born 1942)
Blue Picasso, 1969
Oil painting on masonite panel
Signed to the lower left
Ink drawing to the verso, titled Blue Picasso Boy
Titled and dedicated to the verso “For my friend, Pablo Picasso”

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miró. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
