An oil painting on canvas by Sam Barber (American, born 1943), titled Nesbitt Inn. This Impressionist style painting depicts the Nesbitt Inn on Nantucket in shades of pastel with impasto application. It is signed and dated ‘S. Barber 85’ to the lower right corner. The painting is housed in a simple gilt wood frame with a brown painted border and linen liner. The painting is accompanied by an exhibition catalog and original purchase documents.

Sam Barber is a Massachusetts-based artist who emigrated to the United States from Europe as a child. As a young man, he lived in New York and studied at both the Art Student’s League and the National Academy of Design before moving to Massachusetts. There, he studied at the Cape Cod School of Art and went on to teach at the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Arts as well as the Cape Cod Art Association. He is currently a member of the Society of American Impressionists and lives and works in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
